Determination of the anthropometry of processors for designing ergonomically improved dewatered cassava mash (DCM) sieving machine

Traditional dewatered cassava mash sieving device developed by local craftsmen in Nigeria exposes users to work-related musculoskeletal discomfort (WMSD), among other drawbacks such as low throughput capacity, high energy, and time input. This research seeks develop an improved manual (DCM) machine which alleviates this exposure well enhance productivity. Anthropometric parameters of 150 processors from three senatorial districts Rivers state were collected analyzed. From the data body parts measured, DCM was developed. The result measurement analyzed using t-test analysis variance (ANOVA) revealed that there no statistically significant difference between male female measured within a zone zones investigated. yielded following mean values for 5th, 50th 95th percentile generated data: elbow height sitting (D) 15.00, 19.23 22.67; lower leg length (E) 38.80, 44.03 48.87, fingertip (F) 38.27, 48.23 52.43; thigh clearance (H) 9.83, 13.17 18.00; hip breadth (J) 28.33, 32.83 42, respectively centimeters zones. Also, ergonomic dimensions more comfortable posture recommended: 72cm height, 53 cm width, 68cm length, range 36-50 cm.
